According to a 2022 study by Traction Energy Asia, this high consumption results in a potential waste of 1.2 million kiloliters from households and micro-enterprises. The Indonesian Vegetable Oil Industry Association (GIMNI) stated that from 5 liters of used cooking oil, 1 liter of biofuel can be produced. Even more interestingly, a study by Traction Energy Asia shows that biofuel from used cooking oil produces significantly lower carbon emissions compared to biofuel from Crude Palm Oil.

With the huge potential of used cooking oil, Traction Energy Asia, in collaboration with the Center for Environmental Law and Climate Justice, has prepared an Academic Paper on Government Regulations regarding the Management and Trade of Used Cooking Oil.
